Professional Development Reflection
Overall, I feel I am on my way to accomplishing my goal of increasing the use of Web 2.0 resources among my students. However, implementing the changes in the middle of the year proved to be difficult. Without having any face-to-face contact with the majority of my students, I am unable to provide direct instruction on how to use these resources and to clearly state my expectations.
I do speak with my students on a monthly basis, and polled students as to what they thought about Glogster. Those that have signed up were excited about the ease of submitting assignments, freedom of design, and simplicity of use. On the other hand, a few students found it too complicated and preferred sticking with what they know. Many students were unaware that this resource was available due to not reading my emails and announcement posts.
I will continue to add additional resources to my Pinterest page and promote the use of Glogster for student submissions. Our school does require our students to come into the office for "class" on the first day of each semester. I will use this time to demonstrate select web resources and encourage students to break away from Word and PowerPoint submissions.
I still feel my photography class is lacking interaction with other classmates and I'm in the process of creating a class website where I will feature student galleries as well as examples of my own photography. There will be a place where students could request a critique through comments from their peers.
The implementation of my professional development plan was successful overall, but I will continue to develop my ideas to increase student engagement, interaction, and use of technology.
